The world seems to be coming to life again. Outside my window is a concert of exuberant birdsong, car stereos, kids playing, and all manner of creatures enjoying the spring renewal. After a dark winter during which my art practice was hibernating, I have been slowly re-awakening it. That has looked like a little drawing here and there, but mostly writing and rewriting my artist statement, CV, applications, emails, and other un-glamorous but necessary maintenance.
Luckily some of this has already paid off! In June I will be participating in two group shows and a comic anthology release. If you are in the Philadelphia area, I invite you to come check out the shows: Printed Copy, opening TONIGHT 4 - 7 PM in Philadelphia, PA and Abington Art Center Juried Exhibition, opening June 10th in Jenkintown, PA.
Both of these pieces got the royal treatment: custom matting and framing by me! I have been wanting to build my own frames for a long time, and these shows gave me the push I needed to do it. I am really proud of the outcome and excited to make more!
"Freedom" and "The Fish is the Sea" will both be available for purchase. If you are interested but unable to attend the show, please get in touch with me. You can also treat yourself to a print of either artwork.
In Other News…
I am also happy to share that the first installment of my comic series "Residency" will be featured in the upcoming issue of Rust Belt Review. Rust Belt Review, edited by cartoonist Sean Knickerbocker, collects works from a wonderful variety of comic artists from all over the country. "Residency" is a spooky supernatural story that will unfold over several more installments.
Here’s a little sneak peak! Rust Belt Review Issue 4 is available for pre-order now. Place your order before June 6th and you’ll get a free 12"x18" color poster!
Thank you for reading, and I hope you can go enjoy the spring weather while it's here!
Cheers,
Lermy
